The wait is over.
After months (let’s be honest — years) of rumors, speculation, and leaks, Pokémon Gen 10 has officially been revealed. Welcome to Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, launching in 2027 and bringing trainers into a breathtaking new open-world region made up of windswept islands and vast oceans.
And yes — this is a big one.
🌍 A Brand-New Island Region (And It Looks Stunning)
Set across a sprawling archipelago, Winds & Waves introduces what may be the most visually ambitious Pokémon world yet.
From:
Dense jungles
Mangrove swamps
Lava-filled caves
Glittering coral reefs
Futuristic seaside resorts
Massive open ocean exploration
This generation is clearly responding to fans who wanted stronger visuals and a more immersive world after recent releases.
Underwater exploration appears to be fully integrated into gameplay — something fans have been hoping for since the Hoenn days.
And yes — it’s officially confirmed to be another true open-world experience, building on what we saw in Scarlet & Violet.
🌱🔥💧 Meet the Gen 10 Starters

Choosing your starter is always the hardest decision. Here’s what we know so far:
🌿 Browt
Grass-type — “Bean Chick Pokémon”
Described as lively but clumsy. A small bird starter that already has fans divided (in the best way).
🔥 Pombon
Fire-type — “Puppy Pokémon”
Guileless and friendly. Early favorite status? Absolutely. Fire dog starters always bring strong energy.
💧 Gecqua
Water-type — “Water Gecko Pokémon”
Fast and intelligent. Some fans are already comparing it to Froakie and Sobble — but with its own sleek personality.
We haven’t seen their evolutions yet — and as every experienced trainer knows, final evolutions often determine the real choice.
We’ll be watching closely.
Confirmed Returning Pokémon

The reveal trailer showcased several familiar faces already confirmed for the Gen 10 Pokédex:
Oddish, Gloom, Tropius, Wailord, Taillow, Tangela, Ledyba, Ledian, Slugma, Sizzlipede, Pikachu, Wingull, Carnivine, Tympole, Duskull, Lumineon, Frillish, Tynamo, Krabby, Mareanie, Corsola, Sandygast — and more likely to come.
Leaks suggest:
Around 100 new Pokémon
A Pokédex of roughly 400 total species
Ambitious? Yes. Impossible? Not at all.
🗓️ Release Window & Platform
Here’s what’s officially confirmed:
Release Window: 2027
Platform: Exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2
Game Freak is developing the titles exclusively for the next-generation console. That means Winds & Waves will not be releasing on the original Nintendo Switch.
This signals a full transition to the new hardware — and likely a major technical leap for the franchise.
A 30-Year Milestone
The reveal came during the Pokémon Presents livestream celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Thirty years in — and Pokémon is still evolving.
From pixel sprites on the Game Boy to expansive island ecosystems with underwater mechanics, Gen 10 feels like a defining moment.
And the ominous ending of the trailer — swirling winds and crashing waves forming a storm — hints there’s something bigger brewing in this region.
Why This Generation Feels Different
What stands out most?
The scale
The ambition
The visual polish
The full embrace of open-world exploration
A bold move to next-gen exclusivity
This isn’t just another entry. It feels like a reset point.
If Game Freak delivers on what we’ve seen so far, Winds & Waves could become one of the most important Pokémon generations ever released.
